BEHIND THE LENS

My artist’s voice is more about my style and technique than it is about what I have to say. I avoid the cliché of the self-serious artist. Rather approaching a shot with some predetermined message, I seek the inherent thought in an image. Some thoughts are complex, full of symbolism. Some are as simple as, “Gee, that would make a nice picture.”

When I raise my camera and shoot, it’s a familiar, easy motion like checking the time. And in a way that’s what I’m doing. I’m a photographer largely because of the purity of an art dedicated to capturing a moment, rather than creating it.

I like simple cameras that feel natural in my hands and I have an innate distaste for excessive gadgetry. Besides, I’m clumsy. If it doesn’t feel natural in my hands, I’m liable to drop it and completely ruin my day.

Due to health reasons, my shooting availability is very limited.
